A word about Copyright, IP & Trademark

The purpose of this section is to help you understand how copyright law and trademark law applies to 1000 Hearts branding, logo and the resources available from this website. If you are unclear after reading this information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

The goal is to ensure that 1000 Hearts maintains a positive reputation and financial sustainability, and that everyone can participate in a way they know is legal, ethical and appropriate.

These laws are complex, so it is important that you check your proposed use of the 1000 Hearts branded resources to ensure you have prior permission from 1000 Hearts to use the resources for that purpose, and so you do not infringe any persons intellectual property rights.

1000 Hearts Pty Ltd owns the copyright in the materials, logo, designs, templates, and resources provided through this website, with all rights reserved.

Free Resources

Many people find that being part of the 1000 Hearts community brings a sense of belonging and purpose.

To ensure inclusivity and promote the growth of our global community, 1000 Hearts shares particular resources and ideas for free. This allows all Heartists to get involved and be part of our mission.

If you are making and sharing handmade, eco-friendly pocket hearts for free, you can use the free resources. Please don't change them or use the logo for other purposes, unless you have received written permission from 1000 Hearts to do so.

What's OK anytime

  • Giving away free hearts to individuals and groups who will benefit.
  • Promoting and running free heart-making sessions in your community, with the purpose of making hearts to be donated to individuals and groups who will benefit.
  • Providing details of this website and encouraging others to join the 1000 Hearts global kindness community.
  • Making hearts for yourself and loved ones.
  • Creating free kits or material packs for people making hearts to be donated to individuals and groups who will benefit from a gesture of kindness.

You do not have to seek prior permission to use the free resources in these ways.

What's Not OK

  • Selling hearts, kits or materials that you have made using 1000 Hearts resources (including template, instructions, pre-cut hearts, kits) for any purpose including personal profit and fundraising activities.
  • Creating your own resources or products for sale or personal use using the 1000 Hearts logo or branding (including heart inserts, stickers, stationary, clothing, flyers or posters).
  • Receiving payment for running 1000 Hearts workshops, groups or activities. This applies to any workshop or session that uses 1000 Hearts resources, even if you change the name of the activity.
  • Using 1000 Hearts branding, concepts, wording, materials or resources in your own business, products or services.
  • Giving hearts for free to any cause which sits outside those listed in this document and/or on the 1000 Hearts website including without limitation a cause which may pose a reputational risk to Sarah De Jonge and/or 1000 Hearts Pty Ltd.

Because the purpose of 1000 Hearts is to spread kindness as far as possible, written permission may be provided for the purposes listed above in the "not OK" list. With written permission obtained, you can pursue your idea knowing you are protecting 1000 Hearts and acting in an ethical and legal manner. It also enables you to receive support from 1000 Hearts, connect with the founder and owner and be included in the larger project and community.

For any questions and enquiries, or if you would like to share your involvement with 1000 Hearts Pty Ltd, please contact Sarah De Jonge by emailing sarah@1000hearts.com.au
